Basic Officer Course
CONTINUATION OF IN PROCESSING WEEK
“Leadership”

Molding Marine Officers

In week two of the Basic Officer Course, your Marine will delve deeper into the essential aspects of leadership, participating in classes that focus on the principles and practices crucial for leading Marines. These leadership sessions are designed to enhance their confidence, sharpen decision-making skills, and deepen their understanding of the responsibilities of a Marine officer. Alongside these classes, officers will complete a medical check-in to ensure they are physically prepared to continue with their rigorous training.

Gear and Weapon Issue

Additionally, this week includes the issuance of both individual combat gear at the Individual Issue Facility (IIF) and their assigned weapons. Receiving this gear and weaponry is a significant step, as it equips them with the tools necessary for the upcoming field exercises and tactical training, further preparing them for the challenges ahead.

Building  Endurance

At the end of the week, Marines at the Basic Officer Course will face the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), a crucial evaluation of their physical readiness. The PFT is a comprehensive test designed to assess their overall fitness level through a series of exercises. It includes pull-ups or push-ups to measure upper body strength, planks to evaluate core endurance, and a timed 3-mile run to test cardiovascular endurance. This test not only sets a baseline for their physical condition but also ensures they meet the demanding fitness standards required of Marine officers.

Make Their Day: Send a Gift Card to Your Marine

Lastly, your Marine will have access to the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX). The Exchange is a store on base where your Marine will be able to pick up any supplies that they may need.

Now might be a good time to send an MCX gift card to your Marine in your next letter. They’ll be able to get what they need without worrying about how to pay for it. Once you start writing, you’ll see the option to add a gift card.

I’ll see you next week with more insights and stories during this pivotal time for you and your Marine.

I’m Sgt Maj Paul Davis (USMC Ret), and I can’t wait to share more about this incredible journey with you.

Semper Fidelis,
SgtMaj Paul Davis
