As the United States continues to shift back toward Great Power Competition, a long list of new weapons in development are now aiming to do far more than simply strike targets on the battlefield.

These new weapons must now contribute to the ongoing “great game” of deterrence against China and Russia. Indeed, the value of these new weapon systems might not just be as physical embodiments of America’s kinetic will, but as looming threats in the minds of Beijing and Moscow, which see America’s global presence as an obstacle against their strategic aims.

The U.S. military has four new weapon systems in the works in 2025.

“Some we haven’t discussed at length before and the roles they could play deterring the next big fight before it starts,” Alex Hollings, Sandboxx New’s Editor-in-Chief and host of AirPower on YouTube, said in a recent video.

The U.S. military might be the most powerful and capable in the world, but that doesn’t mean near-peer adversaries, especially China, aren’t growing fast. As such, a steady stream of new weapon systems is necessary to ensure the U.S. military can tackle current and future threats.
