WarGoat Montanta Knife Company

Montana Knife Company, or MKC, has exploded in popularity, and its knives, axes, and more are constantly sold out. The company makes premium-grade knives that have been massively successful with knife nerds, outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, and more. And recently it has entered the realm of tactical knives.

To the surprise of no one, the company is located in Montana and believes in American manufacturing. The company is only four years old, but in this period, it’s grown into one of the most respected American-made brands.

The co-owner, Josh Smith, was the youngest Master Bladesmith ever. He has a decades-long history of knife building and design and is still the brain behind the MKC knives, hatchets, and more – including the two new knives that have become part of the new tactical lineup.

The new tactical series doesn’t deviate a lot from MKC’s lineup, but there are several notable changes that the company has introduced to its new line.

The Montana Knife Company’s tactical options

There aren’t many differences between typical outdoor and tactical knives. Usually, outdoor knives come in a wide variety of colors, with high-visibility oranges and yellows being popular to help you find your knife if you drop it in the bush. A tactical knife tends to be more subdued and designed not to attract attention to the carrier.

Currently, MKC’s tactical lineup consists of two knives: the WarGoat and the TF24. The WarGoat is a dedicated self-defense knife and an adaptation of the company’s Goat design. Goat knives tend to be smaller, easier to carry, and handy. MKC designed the TF24 from the ground up, and it’s not based on any other knife.

Both knives have jumped on the Magnacut steel train. Developed by metallurgist Larrin Thomas, specifically as a premium-grade knife steel, Magnacut is a do-it-all steel: it’s strong and durable, with decent corrosion resistance, and it features excellent edge retention without being tough to sharpen.

MKC cerakotes the blades to keep them subdued, help them blend in rather than stand out, and prevent corrosion.

Both knives come with polymer sheaths with an adjustable retention screw. The sheaths come with a variety of attachment options, including pocket clips, belt mounts, and MOLLE mounts.

The WarGoat

The WarGoat is a minimalist-style knife in the same vein as knives like the Benchmade SOCP. Knives like this can be used for opening MREs, cutting 550 cord, and giving Doc something to do when you cut yourself playing with it. However, it’s designed primarily to be an emergency close-quarters weapon.

The WarGoat’s thin grip ends with a retention ring that wraps around the user’s finger to provide a good hold. The thin grip makes it easy to revert to your rifle without dropping the knife.

The WarGoat is very small measuring almost eight inches long and features a 3.5-inch blade. It weighs only 2.3 ounces.

Its small size makes it easy to stash the knife on a plate carrier or belt without it getting in the way.

The TF24

TF24, which stands for Task Force 24, is a moderate-sized utility knife designed for everyday use. In the same vein as the classic KA-BAR, it can do anything, at any time, and be extremely useful. It features a versatile clip-point-style blade with a pronounced belly for excellent cutting capability.

The TF24 offers a nice thick grip with G10 panels. The panels are strategically textured to provide a good grip while reducing the opportunity for hot spots; they are clearly designed to allow for comfortable use while working hard.

Its blade is a little over four inches long and .158 inches wide. The knife measures about nine inches and weighs 5.73 ounces. It’s of a moderate size and weight so it’s easy to carry and keeps out of the way. While it lacks the flair of some more exotic knives, the TF24 is a perfect all-around working knife that will put in the work.

The Montana Knife Company has dived headfirst into the tactical knife world and is keeping to its reputation for fantastic, well-made, and downright awesome knives.

I’m a big believer in the idea that everyone in uniform needs a knife and the WarGoat and TF24 are a great companion for any troop.
